Reform commission for 4 provinces, ‘Delhi-styled’ capital government

Shawdesh Desk:

The Public Administration Reform Commission has recommended dividing the country into four provinces, forming two additional divisions of Cumilla and Faridpur, and forming a regional government for the capital like the Delhi government.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad revealed the recommendations at a press briefing held at the state guest house Jamuna in the capital on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the reform commission chief Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury submitted the commission’s report to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at Jamuna.

The commission has also recommended downsizing the government framework by keeping only 25 ministries and 44 directorates or departments.

Notably, the commission has called for forming a “Capital City Government” by including the administrative areas of Dhaka city, Keraniganj and Savar upazilas of Dhaka district, Tongi of Gazipur, and Narayanganj.
